Rain + Streetbike = Hypothermia

Mon Feb 9, 2009, 4:49 PM
I was riding to school when there wasn't any rain, but when I got out it was pouring and hailing. I had an appointment I needed to make so I had no choice but to drive home.

I got like 10 minutes away from home when I started to feel sick then I got dizzy and had to pull off into a parking lot. I could barely get off the bike, I was fighting so hard not to pass out and drop my bike. 300 pounds of metal wouldn't be great laying on top of me. I barely got the kickstand down and sat on the curb and passed out. I was laying back into the planter where the water was just building up. I was laying there for 30 minutes in total I think. The first time I woke up a lady was running up to me asking if I was okay and telling me that she was going to call 911 and not to move. I passed out again and woke up again. I completely forgot where I was, and all I could see was the inside of my helmet and the road and a car next to me. I started to panic thinking I crashed and I tried to get up but couldn't. I remembered again where I was and what happened. It was weird, waking up not knowing where I was, it felt like I was dreaming. I went in and out 4 or 5 times. The rain kept waking me up and then the last time the sirens woke me up. They all had to lift me up onto the stretcher, I was just so completely froze.

But yeah, they took me to the hospital and took off all my clothes, and put heating lamps on me. They said it was hypothermia, and that my body just got so cold that it started to shut down. I'm alright now, I got out of the hospital like an hour ago ^_^

BUT YEAH last time I ride for a long distance in the rain =/
